Kansas Wild Life

I work for a Rural Electric. One of our trade magazines ran an article that just seemed too weird to ignore. It HAD to be a journal entry. The population density in Kansas decreases as you go West. WaKeeney is out there is sparse country. To have pachyderms running wild is quite the vision.

Close Call

It's been a hectic tornado season this year. Here in Kansas the towns of Claflin, Manhattan and Soldier's Creek sustained horrible damages last Wednesday with loss of life. The following day Topeka was spared damages when a hook cloud with rotation came through. Too close for comfort. This is a textbook tornado-producing cloud system, but this time it just put on a show. It caught the wife and I off guard in our car.

Parent's Nightmare

Last weekend I spent time sitting on our front porch in the great weather. I was lucky enough to see some bird drama play out, and actually be a part of it. Couldn't believe it! Making a journal entry gave me the incentive to go through a bird book we have and do some web research to identify the bird family and understand more of their life cycle and characteristics. Fulfilling. It's a little wordy, but their story should be told. It ain't easy being a bird.

Meeting Time Doodle

Recipe for bad behavior, use equal parts of :
Friday morning conference call
Dialog not very intense, easy to follow
Other committee members doing all the talking
Journal/pen close by
New ink that needs to be tried

Well, . . . I doodled

This is the first time I ever had a significant doodle during a meeting and I'm not proud of it, but it happened and here it is, after some finishing doodles over a lunch break. I'm playing the odds that one of my peers isn't out there to figure out I was doing this during the meeting.

Time To Grow

For this entry I decided to draw some things that appeal to me with now words to describe them. They stand on their own. Took a stroll around the yard to all the flowers my wife keeps up. Color, shape, twisty, overlapping texture. All appealing characteristics. And this is just the tip of the iceberg! Didn't know flower gardens had so much going for them. Testosterone gets in the way sometimes.

Meadowlark Strut

Spring means rain, bugs and worms. All good if you're a bird. We've had plenty of birds strutting through the yard for their food. This guy was strutting and it seemed useless to me. They never find anything! He proved me wrong.
